are to once again scour the length and breadth of the Scotland, to
seek out the very best in Scottish Stand Up Comedy with the annual Scottish
Comedian of the Year Competition.
The competition is open to all Scottish
comedians no matter how long they have been performing or how high a
profile they may have.
Over the past five years Scottish comedy
fans have taken
the competition to their hearts, with sell out audiences at almost all the
heats, semi finals and finals.
For the past four years the Grand
Final has attracted an audience upwards of 750 people. The Best of
Scottish Comedian of the Year touring shows also attract full houses
at arts centre and theatres across Scotland, as does its Edinburgh
Fringe run at Underbelly.
Likewise the annual Scottish Comedian
of the Year competition has grown to be widely regarded within the comedy
and events industries, being nominated
for Best Traditional Event at the Scottish Event Awards in
2008 whilst The List describes the competition as "looms ever
more influentially in the stand-up calendar" .
Heats for SCOTY will be held at venues
across Scotland from late July to early September. Three semi finals will be held in
mid September and the Grand Final will take place at the Glasgow's
